Middle School Courses
In Design and Modeling, students apply the engineering design process to creatively solve real-world problems. Students use tools such as the design process, computer-aided design (CAD) program, computer simulations, an engineering notebook and 3D printer to design, model and build objects. Students work in teams to design a toy or game for a child with cerebral palsy, fabricate and test it, and make necessary modifications to optimize the design solution.
Automation and Robotics (AR) allows students to trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics platform and programming software to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
In Medical Detectives, students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how a breakdown within the human body can lead to dysfunction. This course should be available starting in the 23/24 school year.
The exciting world of Aerospace comes alive in Flight and Space. Students explore the science behind aeronautics and use their knowledge to design, prototype and test model rocket fuel and a glider. Custom-built simulation software allows students to experience space travel.
Exploring Computer Science (MS) is an exploratory course that empowers students to engage with Computer Science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun. The course will include Hardware and Networks, IT fundamentals, E-Textiles, Robots, Computer Engineering and Game Design with Block Programming.
In this course, students are introduced to the field of audio production that blends a variety of music and entertainment industry related skills. Students complete projects that demonstrate basic skills in recording technique, song arrangement, music theory, individual musicianship, acoustic theory, live sound production, and record production.
