The Summer Youth Education Conference (SYEC) is a no-cost intensive week-long summer program held each year in August, which focuses on the criminal justice system. The program is open to Orange County high school students who are 15 years old or older and are interested in either pursuing a career in any area of the criminal justice system or learn about the role of local law enforcement agencies.
This SYEC provides students with an informative overview of criminal cases, from the time a crime is reported, investigated, trial, and sentencing. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in all areas of the criminal justice system, including the district attorney, judges, police officers, prosecutors, and public defenders. In addition to workshops led by different professionals, students also have the opportunity to take field trips to different agencies, such as local courts, police departments, and training facilities.
