Costa Mesa H.S. / M.S. Instrumental Music
The Costa Mesa High School Instrumental Music Department is made up of Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Marching Band, Color Guard, Jazz Band, Drum Line and Small Ensemble student groups ranging from 7th to 12th grade. The goal of the program is to provide a quality program for each level that uses the state music education standards and performing opportunities to enhance each student's experience.

This Week in Marching Band.....
MONDAY, Nov. 17th : Marching Band season is officially over and so are Monday night practices. Thank you to all of you who made it to every Monday night practice and especially to those of you who helped with the equipment week after week. Special thanks to Jesse Castro for driving the trailer to & from Jim Scott Stadium and helping with all the equipment!
We are transitioning from the field to the concert setting & the gym. The marching band will meet daily 1st period as the Advanced Band for the instrumentalists and the Color Guard will begin practicing for their Winter Guard season. Our “Sounds of the Season” concert is December 4th in the new CMHS Performing Arts Center Theater, so we will begin practicing for that event. We will be using 0 periods this week to help prepare for that.
0 periods this week are as follows:
Band: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Color Guard: Wednesday (7:00am start), Thursday, Friday
O PERIOD SIGN UPS: We will begin sorting out the 0 period options this week for the band. Interest sign-ups begin on Monday and we will go from there. Everyone will be a part of an ensemble for 0 period. Some students might be in more than one ensemble. 0 period times vary greatly, depending on the ensemble.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19TH: EVERYGREEN ORDERS ARE DUE ! Please help out the program so we can get through the things we want to do for 2nd semester and participate in our fundraisers.
SATURDAY, Nov. 22nd: SCJA California State Marching Band Finals @ HBHS
While we did not make it to the Finals this year, you can certainly watch this event. I am also looking for a few very good students to volunteer to help with the event & earn community service. Details tba
SUNDAY, Nov. 23rd: Calling all tuba & baritone players! Two Tuba Christmas events coming up, starting with one this Sunday in Huntington Beach. See Mrs. Gilboe if you are interested!

BOX TOP FUNDRAISER for all CMHS Band & Color Guard Members!
We are continuing the Box Top Fundraiser and are asking everyone to bring in their box tops and deposit them in the Box Top Box in the front of Mrs. Gilboe's office in the band room. What an easy fundraiser for the band to earn money! Thanks to Mrs. Collier for running it. Now Everyone BRING IN YOUR BOX TOPS !!!!

How Can I Help ??? CONTRIBUTIONS !!!
The CMHS/MS Band Program cannot exist without parent contributions. Here are some of the ways in which YOU can contribute:
1. Donate money to the program. (ex. an instrument averages over $300 per instrument)
2. Donate your talents. (ex. welder, seamstress, business connections, fundraising ideas, etc.)
3. Help at events. (ex. chaperone an event, take donations at concerts, help with concessions, work tournaments)
4. Support your student! (ex. come to the concerts/events and support your students and the program)
