CMHS / CMMS Instrumental Music
The Costa Mesa High School Instrumental Music Department is made up of Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Marching Band, Color Guard, Jazz Band, Drum Line, Strings and Small Ensemble student groups ranging from 7th to 12th grade. The goal of the program is to provide a quality program for each level that uses the state music education standards and performing opportunities to enhance each student's experience.

Monday, Oct. 5th: Monday night Marching Band practice. 6:00 - 8:30pm @ Jim Scott Stadium. Get instruments/flags after school. The band room will also be open again from 5:00pm - 5:45pm to load the trailer.
Friday, Oct. 9th: Away Football Game vs. Laguna Beach H.S. @ Laguna Beach H.S. Meet @ CMHS band room at 5:00pm. ALL REQUIRED to wear BLACK Band T-shirt or Black Band Sweatshirt and blue or black jeans. We are representing our program and everyone should have received a t-shirt and had the option to purchase a sweatshirt. I only want to see these items on top please.
Saturday, Oct. 10th: Special Segerstrom Jazz Performance Group @ Latin Jazz Weekend event in the Segerstrom Center for the Arts outdoor patio @ 4:45pm – 5:15pm. There will be food trucks and additional performances as well. Performers meet @ CMHS band room at 2:30pm. Wear: white dress shirts, (ties for gentlemen), black dress pants, black shoes, black socks. We NEED PARENT DRIVERS for students and equipment. Please let me know if you are able to drive.

2015 CMHS Marching Band Student Leaders Get a "Jump Start" at Camp
Emma, Kendall, Ethan, Christopher & Bryan (along with Marissa and Esperanza) attended the California Leadership Academy camp this past July at Chapman University to better equip themselves for their leadership positions. They all said they learned a lot and were very excited to begin our 2015 -2016 CMHS Band Program !

Color Guard Captures Gold !
Big Congratulations to the Color Guard who earned 1st Place in the WGASC Championships Finals on Saturday, April 25th at Segerstrom H.S. with a fantastic performance ! Great job to coach Rhonda Choat, instructor Tara Choat, captains Maggie Hernandez & Alma Carrillo and the entire Color Guard Team!
Color Guard Captures First Place !
Color Guard's "Hotsy Totsy" competition show is going awesome! The team earned 1st place at the April 11th show @ Savanna H.S. with a score of 91.19 and 1st place at the April 17th show @ Woodbridge H.S. with a 92.45. Awesome !!!

8th Grade Percussion Quartet gets a Superior at Festival
Ethan Gay, Brian Vuong, Han Nguyen and Emma Erskine perform at the Van Guard University Small Ensemble Recital after earning a Superior rating at the event.
Jazz Band Awarded $2,000 from the American Legion
The Jazz Band I performed on Saturday, February 14th at the American Legion for their annual Sweetheart Ball. They put on an awesome performance and were awarded $2,000 from the American Legion's Scholarship Fund.

BOX TOP FUNDRAISER for all CMHS Band & Color Guard Members!
We are continuing the Box Top Fundraiser and are asking everyone to bring in their box tops and deposit them in the Box Top Box in the front of Mrs. Gilboe's office in the band room. What an easy fundraiser for the band to earn money! Thanks to Mrs. Collier for running it. Now Everyone BRING IN YOUR BOX TOPS !!!!

How Can I Help ??? CONTRIBUTIONS !!!
The CMHS/MS Band Program cannot exist without parent contributions. Here are some of the ways in which YOU can contribute:
1. Donate money to the program. (ex. an instrument averages over $300 per instrument)
2. Donate your talents. (ex. welder, seamstress, business connections, fundraising ideas, etc.)
3. Help at events. (ex. chaperone an event, take donations at concerts, help with concessions, work tournaments)
4. Support your student! (ex. come to the concerts/events and support your students and the program)
