CMHS / CMMS Instrumental Music
The Costa Mesa High School Instrumental Music Department is made up of Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Marching Band, Color Guard, Jazz Band, Drum Line, Strings and Small Ensemble student groups ranging from 7th to 12th grade. The goal of the program is to provide a quality program for each level that uses the state music education standards and performing opportunities to enhance each student's experience.

Monday, Oct. 24th: Monday night Marching Band practice 6:00 - 8:30pm @ CMHS
Friday, Oct. 28th: Away Football Game vs. Godinez @ Santa Ana Valley. Meet @ 5pm in bandroom. Wear Black Band Shirt/Hoodie and jeans. We should return about 10pm.
(8th graders who want to go to the Middle School Dance may do so, but must either bring me a parent note stating that or have their parents email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or on school loop.)
Saturday, Oct. 29th: “Orange Coast Classic” CSBC Marching Band Tournament @ Oceanview High School, Huntington Beach (hosted by Edison H.S.). Meet @ 10:00am – perform @ 2:30pm – return @ 6pm. (See flyer for tournament day details)
Wednesday, Nov. 2nd – WE HOST & COMPETE in the “South Coast Invitational” CSBC Marching Band Tournament @ Jim Scott Stadium. (See attached flyer)
Friday, Nov. 4th – Home Football Game & Senior Night vs. Saddleback H.S. @ Mustang Field
Saturday, Nov. 5th : CSBC Marching Band competition @ San Clemente H.S
Coin Wars Competition Was Good For Everyone
It was another exciting year of COIN WARS at band camp all week. Strategies of how much money to put in the various section jars & when, and who to sabotage varied from section to section. In the end the Clarinet/Flute Section prevailed with the highest total! Great job to all of the sections. Special thanks to Yvette Calendar for organizing & implementing this fundraiser ! Monies raised will go back to social events for the Marching Band !

Mesa Students Shine at the Van Guard Unversity Small Ensemble Festival
Great work by all who participated in this year's small ensemble festival. SUPERIOR ratings went to the String Ensemble, Brass Trio & Flute/Clarinet Duet. EXCELLENT ratings went to the Percussion Ensemble, Mixed Combo, Clarinet Trio & Flute/Clarinet Trio.

Congrat to Color Guard on a GREAT Season !
Congrats to our 2016 CMHS Color Guard team who placed first at every regional show this season. They competed and placed 1st on Friday, April 1st (no fooling) @ the Canyon H.S. Show, Sunday, April 3rd @ the Mayfair H.S. Show, March 19th @ the Valencia H.S. Show, March 13th @ the Costa Mesa H.S. Show and February 28th @ the Huntington Beach H.S. Show. Thanks to all for your hard work & dedication!

2015 CMHS Marching Band Student Leaders Get a "Jump Start" at Camp
Emma, Kendall, Ethan, Christopher & Bryan (along with Marissa and Esperanza) attended the California Leadership Academy camp this past July at Chapman University to better equip themselves for their leadership positions. They all said they learned a lot and were very excited to begin our 2015 -2016 CMHS Band Program !

We are continuing the Box Top Fundraiser and are asking everyone to bring in their box tops and deposit them in the Box Top Box in the front of Mrs. Gilboe's office in the band room. What an easy fundraiser for the band to earn money! Thanks to Mrs. Collier for running it. Now Everyone BRING IN YOUR BOX TOPS !!!!

How Can I Help ??? CONTRIBUTIONS !!!
The CMHS/MS Band Program cannot exist without parent contributions. Here are some of the ways in which YOU can contribute:
1. Donate money to the program. (ex. an instrument averages over $300 per instrument)
2. Donate your talents. (ex. welder, seamstress, business connections, fundraising ideas, etc.)
3. Help at events. (ex. chaperone an event, take donations at concerts, help with concessions, work tournaments)
4. Support your student! (ex. come to the concerts/events and support your students and the program)
