Mrs. Shanley

For every minute you are angry,

you lose 60 seconds of happiness

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Costa Mesa High School is my alma mater. I have lived in the community for most of my life and raised my family here. I received my undergraduate degree from Concordia University, where I also completed my Multiple Subjects Credential. I finished my Special Education Credential through the Orange County Consortium District Intern Program.  Recently,  I completed a Masters in Teaching through National University.  As you can see, I love school!

My educational philosophy is that all students want to learn and deserve an equal opportunity to excel. My classroom management strategies are designed to motivate and inspire my students and bring out their best – not just in school, but in their daily lives as well. As we navigate these sometimes bumpy seas of adolescence, we will focus on the 5 R’s: respect, responsibility, resourcefulness, reflection, and reward. My students have taught me that if I foster a climate of mutual respect, admiration, and cooperation, they will let their guard down and shed their reluctance to learn. If we set realistic goals and expectations together, they will not settle for mediocrity but will realize their full potential and wonderful things will happen.
